Reed takes flight in Galt

January 21, 2015 | By | No Comments

We decided to get some aerial footage via a drone on our rehab of Spring Street in Galt, CA. This was quite a unique perspective. The footage provided (ShadowQuad) provides our clients with a look into how we work in scope and scale. Although foggy conditions prevailed, we think this is a preview of good things to come.

George Reed partners with FHWA to demonstrate ‘safety edge’ on pavements

September 2, 2014 | By | No Comments

CalAPA member George Reed Inc. partnered with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and local agencies to conduct a demonstration last week of a “safety edge” pavement treatment.

The Aug. 28 paving demonstration near Sonora in Tuolumne County was attended by more than 30 industry and agency personnel who wanted to get an up-close look at the paving equipment and technique that creates a 30-degree angled edge to pavement shoulders.

efforts, are promoting the implementation of the sloped pavement edge at shoulders of rural roads as a safety measure. The agency says the edge can be less jarring for motorists who drift off the road and over-correct, veering into oncoming traffic or off the road.

While no exact figures exist, Ken Kochevar of the FHWA said that perhaps 300 such fatal accidents per year in California are as a result of vehicles leaving the roadway due to abrupt pavement shoulder changes, which are sometimes caused when shoulder backing is eroded.

Last week’s paving demonstration took place on a local road in Tuolume County, and local, state and federal agency personnel participated. For the paving demonstration, the George Reed paving crew had two different attachments bolted on to the paving machine.
